Congratulations to Mohan Tyagi and Sam Newman, EVAS Air’s newest First Officers. Both former students were recently promoted to First Officer flying our Beech 1900Ds.
Sam, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, completed his Commercial Pilot Licence in September of 2011 at GFT, at which time he accepted the position of Chief Flight Follower for the Flight School and Airline Operations. This of course led him to his current position of First Officer.
Mohan, from New Delhi, India, began with GFT as a flight student in July 2, 2009. He later completed an Instructor Rating and was hired to begin as an Instructor in June 2010. This of course led him to his current position of First Officer.
These students are another GREAT example of GFT’s Career progression Program at work. GFT has moved many pilots into its airline operations over the years and look forward to further expansion to help many more GFT students.
Congrats Guys!

GFT and EVAS, in partnership with Air Canada, are proud to announce that we have added additional routes to our airline flight schedule. We will be adding another Beech 1900D on February 1, 2012 to our Air Canada Express scheduled flight service. This will include Gander – Goose/Wabush twice daily and a new scheduled service from Deer Lake – Goose/Wabush direct.
This is great news for GFT Staff and Students as it once again strengthens our Career Progression Program and provides them with more opportunity to progress on to our airline as many students and staff have in the past.
Greg Worboys is the Chief Flight Instructor at GFT. GFT submitted his name in application for the David Charles Abramson Memorial (DCAM) Flight Instructor Safety Award to be delivered during the ATAC (www.atac.ca) AGM in Montreal November 14th, 2011
This prestigious, annual award presented by the Abramsons at ATAC'S AGM & Convention, honours and recognizes outstanding flight instructors who possess superior teaching skills and have made a significant contribution to the advancement of Canadian aviation safety. You can find more information on this award at www.dcamaward.com.
Although Mr. Worboys did not take the top award he did receive special recognition from the Abramsons and ATAC, an honor in itself. Mr. Worboys as a most deserving nominee of the prestigious DCAM Flight Instructor Safety Award received special recognition in front of the industry, at ATAC'S AGM & Convention at the Opening Luncheon on the 14th November. The pictures above show Wayne Gouveia (VP Commercial General Aviation) of ATAC presenting Mr. Worboys with a certificate of recognition to participate in an ATAC SMS workshop, facilitated by Mike Doiron, of Doiron Aviation Consulting, valued at $1500.
In addition to this he was also presented with a cheque by Lynne McMullan, President of CAAC and a substantial financial award from a DCAM Flight Instructor Safety Award sponsor, Essential Turbines, for this special recognition to assist with the costs of attending the SMS course.
Congratulations Greg from all of us at GFT and thank you to DCAM Flight Instructor Safety Award, ATAC, CAAC and Essential Turbines.
